HOLI

Holi a vibrant Hindu festival is known as the festival of colours and marks the arrival of spring ,celebrating love ,new beginning and the Triumph of good over evil through playful rituals of throwing colour. The holy festival is that of Radha and Krishna .As the eighth incarnation of the Hindu God Vishnu ,Krishna is seen by many as the supreme God .Krishna is said to have blue skin because as legend has it ,he drank poisonous milk from a demon when he was a baby .Krishna fell in love with Radha, but feared she would not love him because of his blue skin but Radha allowed him to dye her skin with colour making them a true couple. And this act of love brought about the union of Radha and Krishna. There is another story is behind Holi that connected to Shiva. The fabled significance of Holi is connected to Shiva in yoga and intense meditation , among other Hindu traditions light Shaivism and Shaktism. On Basant Panchami goddess Parvati enlisted the aid of kamadeva Hindu God of love , in her quest to bring back Shiva to the world .The Yogi open his third eye and burns kamadeva to ashes as the love god shoots arrows at Shiva. This upsets both Kamadev's wife Rati and his own wife Parvati . Shiva recognises Rati's forty day asceticism in meditation ,paradons her out of compassion and restores the god of love as a result. And that's why the 40th day following the Vasantha Panchami festival is when Holi is celebrated in honour of the return of the god of love kamdev.
